The mission of EADV (Educating Against Domestic Violence), a non-profit organization based in Nashville, Tenn, is to offer domestic violence education and explain the warning signs of an abusive personality. In addition, EADV encourages them to objectively evaluate their current and past relationships in order to break the cycle of abuse. EADV works to help current victims and survivors of domestic violence as well as teen girls who are at a greater risk for becoming involved in abusive relationships.
Presentations by EADV strive to educate the community about the effects of domestic violence, not only on the victim and family members but on society as a whole. Domestic violence is not a private matter ‹ its a dangerous disease that, left unchecked, can lay waste to a family and the community in which that family resides.
Dianne Schwartz, the founder of EADV, is a survivor of domestic abuse. As a result of her experiences, she has seen the need for a pro-active and educational approach as an adjunct to those domestic violence programs assisting victims.
Her book, "Whose Face is in the Mirror?", won Hay House Publishing's "Book of the Year 2000" award and is about Dianne's journey through domestic violence and healing.
